Default ancestry help

Does anyone know which is a good way to trace your family name back to where it originated. I have a big gap in mine that I'm trying to patch up.

bounce!

my aunt did a geneology gap through national geographic or something like that.

it's hard to and costs a lot of money.

Search online your last name in areas as far back as you can trace your family to. You might find a relative who has already done some research or can fill in the gaps.

The name Zamora comes from the Gothic "Semura" or from the Arab "Azemur" and "Semurah".

In Mexico, it's completely different way to trace it. Just read my threads to see what I mean.

More than likely, her ancestors (native) was given the last name Zamora by the Spanish, that or her native side married a Spaniard.

Yeah I read a lil about that. Also that it comes from the town of Spain. Their were four De Zamora's that left spain I think one went to Peru and three followed Cortes into Mexico. Thats where i get stuck. My dad told me that he could probably trace it up too the seventeen hundreds the problem that I'm trying to patch up is did my family come from one of those that came to Mexico from Spain and if so which one which happend in the fifteen hundreds. Theirs even a crest of a coat of arms. Gets me curiouse you know.

Read Tec's threads. Remember that Spanish names were most likely our slave names.

*Bump*

I feel that I haven't had much luck on the leads I find on Ancestry.com. I believe it's partly due to the fact that there may not have been good record keeping back in the day and/or information submitted may be off (at least for my family); i.e. people waiting a long period of time after their children were born to register them or registering them with different info we weren't made aware of.

Nonetheless, I still check it from time to time to see what other info is out there hoping it leads me further on my family tree.

I'm also curious to do the 23andMe; this would provide quicker insight.

That's common with Mexicans. For birthday, I usually tell my mom should we go with her official or real birthday since she technique celebrates both. LOL.
