LA people, please read. Need help.

okay so I moved down here and there are a few questions I have.

1) what are the penny saving grocery stores around here called? up in the bay area we had food max, save mart, smart foods, etc. Just need a few names so I can look them up. Albertson's is not going to cut it.

2) where are the mexican tiendas around here? You know, a place where I can get some carne asada, fresh tortillas, bread, etc. Had some coffee today with no f'ing mexican bread and now I am very grumpy.
Anything near culver city but if there is a tienda that is worth the drive, let me know.

Safeway for NorCal peeps is Ralph's in SoCal and Food 4 Less = Foods Co. That's pretty much the extent of my SoCal supermarket knowledge.

I think they do have WinCo down there too.

No, Food4Less is called Food4Less. Ralph's is called Ralphs.

There are a lot of cheap Mexican markets in L.A. Food4Less is the only one I can think of off the top of my head, but I also get a ton of junk mail for other ones.
I also like the store Big Lots for some of my cheap food stuffs.

I don't know Culver City very well, but you might want to make your way to the downtown area for the stuff you're looking for. If you want Paisa stuff, then go where the paisas live.

I did a search for food4less on the site and they referred me to ralphs. I guess in my area there isn't any and have to travel a bit east for food4less

I would suggest going to Superior, they have wide selection of pan Mexicano and fresh meats and their prices are pretty good.

El Tapatio make fresh handmade tortillas in front of you (if you're interested), but I find them to be a bit pricey on their other things.

superior is the spot i go to... it's kinda far from you, tho. i think u should stick to the ones that xc suggested since they're near you.

buy low is another place i used to go to and they have cheap ass shit on wednesdays or something like that.


but like someone suggested u need to go to where the paisas live to get paisa stuff... and that would be east of where you're at.

is there a Vallarta down there? they sell preseasoned meats/poultry
and have fresh pan made daily along w/groceries
but dont buy their flan... i just bought one last month

I wish there was a Vallarta down here, but those are mostly in the SF Valley and just a bit north in Bakersfield and the surrounding areas...I go every time I'm at home.

Yeah, that's what we have out in the Valley. I don't think there are any in LA. Sorry SJ, I don't know that area too well. I say go with what the others have suggested...drive towards central LA and you'll find something
