Santa Barbara/Wine Tasting

So I'm tryna plan a Wine tasting trip up to that area... i guess north of SB.... I'm not too familiar w/ all that shit and am wondering if anyone knows of any spots or whatever to stay in or what tours/wineries are worth the price of entry....


If anyone has any first hand knowledge, it'd be much appreciated...

I haven't seen too many wineries in the SB area, but where I have seen a shitload is more in the Paso Robles area. I've never stopped by any of them since I'm usually with fam when I drive by (wine tasting + kids under my supervision = no no), but the area around PR has wineries for miles it seems.

Napa is a great place for wine tasting since there's so many wineries there.

I've only went wine-tasting once, near Solvang. The wineries didn't charge to enter, but it was about $5 to taste at each spot. Went to about five or six different wineries. I'd like to do it again. Make sure to watch Sideways before you go, to get really wine-tasting tips (this is essential to a great wine-tasting adventure).

Im planning a trip to the Paso Robles wine festival in May of this year. On craigslist, there are several properties that you can rent for the weekend. Most of the homes are badass and minimum 3 bedrooms, so in order to save money, you should invite some couples/people that you're cool with, and it'll end up costing you about $200/person for the weekend. Thats a good fucking deal if you ask me.

I found a wine tasting tour that I'm gonna check out... it's like goberries or something like that.

Wine festivals are the shit, since you have a shitload of wineries present and you get to taste them all for the entry fee. The one is San Diego costs $125, which is pretty hefty, but all the major and up n coming wineries throughout Cali are there. The one in Paso is $60 and is mostly Paso wineries. Pechanga just happened last weekend, wished I coulda made it.

So the tour I'm checking out has tastings in four wineries and a picnic with transportation provided. The total for 2 is 236 plus tax. That seems expensIve to me but I have no reap way to gauge the cost bc ive never done that shit.

I'm sure it's just a shuttle van. U think that's too pricey? They also give discounts towards
wine purchases and shit.

dude, that sounds expensive to me...
When I went, we went with a couple who knew the area,
and we just drove to several (maybe 6 or 7) wineries over
two days--only had to pay for the room, food, and the tastings.
Maybe you can find out where you wanna go and find out the
wineries in that area and drive on your own. In the day of google
and garmin, it dont seem all that hard.

this was a few years ago, i think in '06. back then they were between $5 and $10. And you could get some good bottles between $10 and $30. You could pay more, but i wasn't about to pay $50 for a bottle. anyway, if you want, I can ask my friend about the locations of the wineries she usually goes to...?

where they filmed Sidways. we stopped at an ostrich farm. I
guess there's a quick reference to it in the movie...when they
dude runs him naked and mentions that he went through an
ostrich farm. anyway, i'll mention it to her asap.
