Default Mañanitas a la Virgen

I understand many are not Catholics in here and also don't believe in saints, but for those of you that do, here's this...

Well today is December 12th, El dia de la Virgen de Guadalupe, la madre de los Mexicanos.

Did anyone go to their local church? If so do you want to share your experience?

I did, I actually participated in makeing the cross after the Rosario, we had lots of kids, which made it very touching. We gave coffee, hot chocolate, and sweet bread.

La danza lasted 30 min, and they were really good, you could tell they had practice.

by the way, has anyone been to La Basilica?

My neighborhood celebrates in on the Sunday before the 12th. The street closes down and all these local stores get together and bring pan dulce, coffe, champurrado, tamales.. They set up chairs and an altar for when the priest comes.
After there is danzas, mariachi, singing and chismiando with your neighbors.
This is tradition for like 30 years now

I never been to La BAsilica, but it is on my to-do list!!

Nice. Yes, I did saw on the TV announcing the overview live from el DF.

Wow Krissy, lucky you, that seems like a wonderful tradition.

It is on my to-do list too. I think I'd start tearing up the minute I walk into it, it's a very sacred place.

But some day soon, I'd like to visit it.

I love the tradition of las Man~anitas to la Virgen de Guadalupe. I have this DVD of last years homage at the Basilica, it's great and the music is cool. My mom's mortal remains are in a crypt in the basement of the Basilica in Mexico City. It gives me a nice feeling being able to see live pictures of the Basilica.

No I don't mind you asking. My mom (QEPD) many many years ago, purchased it when they first started selling the crypts, to keep our grandmother's ashes there. After mom died unexpectedly in Mexico, we knew that her ashes should be moved there as well. They don't sell the crypts anymore-they ran out.

I know, they ran out long ago, the only way to get one, is if someone that hasn't died yet, sells it.

wow, thats neat. i'd like to be there, but at the same time, i'd like to stay at my home town with my love ones.

Crazy, I didn't even know today was el dia de la virgen. I just started making a new graphic image of her just 2 days ago. Since I didn't know I guess its obvious I dont officially celebrate it, in reality I honor her every day.

:edit:

Trip out too that this will be the biggest moon in a long time...

Well, Its barely in the works but I will show you a quickee graphic I made about 6 mo.s ago. along with another bulletin post I made on Myspace just 2 days ago...

"Now that the Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe has been built there, they call her Tonantzin too.. the term refers-to that ancient Tonantzin and this state of affairs should be remedied..

..because the proper name of the Mother of God is not Tonantzin, but Dios.It seems to be a satanic device to mask idolatry..and they come from far away to visit that Tonantzin, as much as before..

A devotion which is also suspect because there are many churches of Our Lady everywhere and they do not go to them; and they come from faraway lands to this Tonantzin as of old."

Like she said, the colors really make it stand out. Nice touch with the globe and roses.

Thanks, I whipped up pretty quick. Not 100% satisfied with it but I like it. When I'm done with the new one I'll be sure to post it.

I was supposed to go dance for the ceremony, but I had some other pressing issues. Plus dancing in the catholic church never really sat well with me.. I feel very uncomfortable..

and performed again tonight.
