Default The Four Agreements...

Has anybody read The Four Agreements: A Toltec Wisdom Book by Don Miguel Ruiz. I haven't read it yet, but I was wondering what were your opinions on it...

My mistake, I wasn't very clear. What my question was, after reading the book/books, have you applied its exercises to your life and do you find it difficult to break away from old beliefs. and what we have been fed to believe. Personally, it's been a chore and find myself falling backwards.

I read it and in Spanish.
I liked it. If you pay attention to the agreements it can really change your life. They are kind of hard to do especially not taking anything personally because I am the type of person who really likes positve reinforcement. Anyway it is a really good book.

Default The 4 Agreements

The 4 Agreements is a book written about 8 yrs ago by don Miguel Ruiz. It is a book that introduces and puts forth the basic spiritual philosophy of the Tolteka-Nahuas into practical terms for this modern society.

Some in the Mexika world have simply dismissed don Miguel and these teachings as a "new age" fraud. I believe this to be far from the truth .
Some of the reasons being that I have found it to enhance my studies, promote the re-analyzation of questionable conclusions, and answer many of the “mysteries” involved with the Indigenous academic studies.
Since awakening to these philosophies and the secular anthropological knowledge of Anahuc, I have experienced beautiful and profound events in my life. I have also met quite a few Elders from the Northern Nations such as Ojibwa and Dine` that have expressed wisdom identical to that of the Toltecayotl as put forth by don Miguel.
But only one’s experience can truly validate the authenticity of these ways. I can say that from my world that they are very real and have proved fruitful.

I was introduced to this philosophy of The 4 Agreements at the same time I came across "The Mexica Handbook" by Olin Tezcatlipoca. The combination of these books served as a metaphorical point of conception for my grand blossoming into a reclaimed indigenous person.

By no means am I saying “this is the only way ” or anything based on that sort of mentality. My only intention is to share beloved wisdom that has worked for me, in hopes that it will prove useful to you and help tear away any obstructions on your path to achieving the full potential of your Indigenous self.

That being said I will list the 4 Agreements and then elaborate in due time.

Nikan Tlakah Tiahui!

1. BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD

Speak with integrity.Say only waht you mean. Avoid using the word to go against yourself or to gossip about others.Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. DONT TAKE ANYTHING PERSONAL
Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others you wont be the victim of needless suffering.

3. DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS
Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement you can completely transform your life.

4. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST
Your best is going to change from moment to moment;it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick.Under any circumstance, simply do your best.

Teotihuacan:Pertinent to the Toltecaotl and The 4 Agreements

One of the texts come from Sahaguns's work. In discussing the name
given to the city of Teotihuacan, he states:

And it was named Teotihuacan, "the city of teotl," that
is "god", because they held that that the lords who were buried
there were canonized as gods after their deaths, and that they did
not die, but awakened from a dream in which they had lived.
Therefore, the ancients said that when they died, men did not
perish, but began to live again almost as if awakened from a dream,
and that they became spirits or gods.

They said to them , "Lord, lady, awaken, now it is beginning
to dawn, now it is daybreak; the yellow, plumed birds are beginning
to sing, and now the multicolored butterflies are flying." And when
someone died they were accustomed to say that now he was teotl,
which meant that he had died in order to become a sprite or a god.
And the ancients believed, on their self-deception, that when the
lords died, they became gods. So they would be feared and obeyed
the rulers said that some became a Sun, others the Moon, and still
other planets.

I have the book, those 4 things are true things to live by. WHen i bought the book i though i was going to be learning something, but i put it doewn half way through the first chapter. I live that way for the most part already. I do however need to work on somethings, but for the most part i live my life like that, without ever have knwoing the book. I will finish the book one day, it kind of threw me off because it takled alot about GOD, and i guess it is trying to reach those that believe in GOD, it just threw me off a bit because it repeats it alot or brings that up alot, especially when i thought it was a Toltec wisdom book. But i like the second thing you posted, nice read, thank you.

I like this one. But notice how people are always quick to attack simply because of assumptions that they've made for themsleves. To ask questions isnt the same as to pose a threat. people have a hard time accepting that though.

Good post.

That's why I ain't ever believed in peer pressure. Everyone does
what they wanna do. As humans we have the freedom of choice.
Yes all circumstances are different- but in the end it is our decision.

I wish women would live by this one. Instead of always
assuming we know how they feel, or what they want. LOL...
Anyhow, when you assume, you make an ASS out of U (YOU) and ME

I know it sounds cheesey- but shoot for the moon. That way even
if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars. Mi jefita always used to
tell me that when shit'd get difficult for me.

He uses "God" as a collective term. Plus it is a familiar word to most people and I belive he greatly expnded what peoples concept of "God " is.
His writing is in simple practical terms intended for as many people as possible I guess.
I could rewrite it and throw alot of Nahua terminology and such into it,thus "looking" more Toltek but the meaning and intention would be the same.

We should choose this book as one for the bookclub

We have to start that up again as people are now back from vacations and school has started and the weather is nasty again - so people are indoors more and are more inclined to read

So what do you say??????

Please?

What I think is funny of the book now is they have The Four Agreements Toltec Tarot Cards in a lot of book stores.

I am looking for this book. instead of buying it off amazon or some other place I thought it would be a good idea to see if anyone has this and is willing to depart from it and just buy it off someone here. I am also looking for the book Drink Cultura.......
