Default chicano documentary ideas

Anybody have ideas of what they would like to see, as far as documentaries. Or if you could make one yourself, what topic would it be? What topics do you feel are important, that should be discussed or you'd like to see being covered?

Doesn't necessarily have to deal with our culture. It can be anything.

Most of the stuff I know is what happens after the Chicano Movement of the 70s.

I'd like to see a documentary on the affects of civil war in central america and how the influx of immigrant youth from those countries affected L.A.

Socially and culturally.

I hope to get my Ph. D one day studying this.

Who would you have pick? I can't think of anyone else.

Solitude is doing ok. No idea why he doesn't come here anymore.

What do you mean by Chicano professionals?

During the civil rights movement was an interesting era. Documentary covering the brown berets. Historical documentaries are tough to do though and expensive.

lol reality tv really doesn't count. Unless there is a point and usually reality TV has no point except to entertain.

that's a huge topic! It would take a long time to do the research.

here are a few out of the top of my head
  • missing women of juarez
  • indigenous people in Mexico(Broad topic but it would only focus on one or two families)
  • immigration, primary focus on difficulties living here rather than concentrating on the border
  • curanderos
  • campesinos
I know some of these topics have already been done but not good enough, in my opinion.

I was talking more like the spiritual part afterwards. The stuff that was happening in the 80's: arrival of Danza Azteca, sweat lodges, Chicanos trying their best to go to find their native roots. A good guy to interview is a Chicano veterano & poet who seen it all is Jose Montoya in Sacramento which is somewhat near where you live.

You're going for the easy topics:

Missing women in Juarez has so much info.

There's a lot of indigenous families at your direction, but mostly Mixteco.

Never really heard anyone do anything on this.

Curanderos. In true Mexican communities, there's always at least one of them. If not, then usually the community knows where to go to see one.

Campesinos. There's still tons of them in Northern Cali.

A curandero would be a good one because then you could just film them and then the people that come to that person...and go deeper into the stories of the people....kinda like miami ink.

Geez lets see. My list is a little bit more diverse because im unbalanced but:
That Chicano march- I think pbs did a documentary on it and they mentioned it in the documentary "Chicano!" But that only left me wanting more, especially the footage and interviews with actual participants. Would like more in depth look at the ruben salazar murder.
Zoot suit riots- I cant find the documentary anywhere. Not on amazon or any other site. I did read the transcript from the show on pbs.org(I think) it was pretty good.
Gregorio Cortez- Would like to know more about this, especially about the shooting and trial.
New Mexico prison riot- Like to hear some interviews about first hand accounts about the oppressive conditions in the prison. The chicano population was the largest at the time.
Thee Midniters- Actually, I would like to see this made into a movie. Sort of like the way La Bamba was done only with the sixties chicano rock n roll thing going on.
Thats it for now.

If you do these, i want to be in on it:

In the book MESSAGE TO AZTLAN by Corky Gonzalez, he has 2 plays he wrote but i dont think they were ever done. I would love to do them, they really captured me, maybe even add a little more to them.

They are called:
-REVOLUTIONIST
-A CROSS FOR MACLOVIO
I believe i have posted about them before. If i havent i will try to transcribe a summary.

Going off of what Sweetnspicey said, i have this book Linda gave me. COYOTES by Ted Conover. A journey through the secret world of America's illegal aliens. It is a very good book. What it is in a White guy who twice makes the journey across the border with Immigrants illegally. He pays like they do, he sleeps, lives and works like they do and with them. At one time he even goes all the way back to the small Village some of his companions were at and he lives there and works there and then makes his way back across the border with some villagers who were heading back across. Hell he even made the treacherous treach with his village buddies across the AZ desert.

But yeah for the most part he goes through all the stuff they did, with the exception that whenever they would get caught he would get let go, but told to never do it again. But he usually tried to help them when he could. That would be a good documentary idea. This one might take a while as well, this guy did this for a few yrs.

BUT my only concern would be putting the guys on camera and kind of exposing their identity when other wise they would be just another face people see, now they would be a target to be picked up, ya know?

I seen a documentary on this called "mojados:through the night". This was actually an idea I was working on but I abandoned it after the guy released his documentary. Figured it'd be pointless to release to exact same thing and people would accuse me of "copying"
