Default Sitting w/ your back to an entrance....

I fucking hate doing this... In any place I tend to go I try to always situate myself facing the entrance or at least so i can have the entrance in my peripheral view.

I remember when I was reading Malcolm X's autobio he spoke about his reluctance to sit w/ this back turned to an entrance and as I got older i found it disconcerting to do the same...

like right now I'm in this computer lab and i'm sitting w/ my back to the entrance and people keep coming in and out and i can see their silhouettes on the computer screen but i can't make out faces....

I think my irritation comes from growing up where I grew up and always feeling like I had to watch my back... like u walk past someone on the sidewalk and u turn around to look back to see if they kept it moving or if they stopped...

Sonuvabitch i hate that feeling.

It must be cause of the environment we were raised in, which would explain why since my first tour I always sleep with some sort of knife or sharp object

Maybe in a past life someone killed you thru your back, that is what one person once told me. I panic when someone is walking behind me too...

I never thought of that C323.....

It's funny tho... now that I live back in the neighborhood I don't get paranoid when I'm at home... and when I lived in a relatively "nicer" area i sometimes felt an uneasy at home...

step father is the same way. I only started to notice as I got older, now it all makes sense why his preferred seat is always pointing towards the nearest door, no matter where we were. didn't want to give his back to people as he was sitting

Never thought about this. I don't think that I become uneasy per say...but if I cannot see who is coming and going through a door, I do find that I tend to look back to see who it is almost all the time. Hmm.

Proper etiquette & chivalry dictates that when a gentle man
and lady are seated, it is the woman who is supposed to have
her back to the wall. I guess the bitch is supposed to see and
be seen.

daaang Dee.

As for the topic, I'm like that but I have a reason. lol..
I'm blown away by how many school shooting's there's been.
But I work at UNT, with Grad students and we've had a couple of threats. Since I work in the lobby area of the admissions office, I sit to where my back is toward the entrance and the other Admin Assistant sits with her side to the entrance.

The threats and whatnot have gotten me REALLY paranoid to where we bought mase and I turn every time that door opens (when I hear the doorhandle), or when I hear footsteps in the hallway.... My hearing ability has really spiked ever since we've gotten threats.

I cant say that it makes me uneasy but i just dont like to have my back to the door. Nor do I like people I dont know walking behind me and if they are too close i just stop or move very slowly. It does not bother me as much to have my back to a door if my husband is facing the door.

I don't ever sit with my back to the door if possible.

I prefer to see everyone who walks in for safety reasons.

I like to be aware of the people that are in the same building as I.
