I too can remember when 1 gallon unleaded was $0.99. I am from TX, and this must have been about 6 maybe 7 years ago. Heck even before that it was lower. My cousins from CA came to visit us one time and they were in aw by the low gas prices they even took a pic posing in front of a sign that read "Unleaded $0.79".....oh those were the days...of course it didn't really matter to me since I didn't have to worry about fueling up as a kid.

I am glad my work is only a short distance away and have a company vehicle when I gotta drive.

For those of you who use your vehicles at work, if you don't get reimbursed by your employer, you can claim it in your taxes. I believe the national average is $0.35/mile. I am certain of this if you use your vehicle at work, such as making deliveries, running errands, business meeting trips, etc. I am not too sure about simply driving to work.

heres a paste & copy of some helpful info for everyone.

( Ways to Reduce Your Fuel Costs, NOW! )

DRIVE STEADILY. Slowing down or speeding up wastes fuel. Also avoid tailgating. Itís the #1 cause of car crashes in California!! ( lol okay guys?)Use the cruise control during long highway driving to keep your speed steady. It saves gas.

Buy gasoline during coolest time of day - early morning or late evening is best. During these times gasoline is densest. Gas pumps measure volumes of gasoline, not densities of fuel concentration. You are charged according to "volume of measurement." ( )

Drive More Efficiently
Don't Drive Aggressively / Drive at the Speed Limit: Avoid aggressive driving and jackrabbit starts. All vehicles lose fuel economy at speeds above 65 mph.

Reduce Air Conditioner Use / Close Windows: Using the air conditioner significantly reduces fuel economy. If it's cool enough, use the flow-through ventilation instead of rolling down the windows.

DON’T TOP OFF YOUR GAS TANK. Stop when the gas pump automatically turns off. Overfilling your tank can destroy something called your gasoline-vapor recovery equipment. This recovery canister is meant to store gasoline vapors so they are not released into the atmosphere. But if you overfill and gasoline sloshes into the canister, it will stop working. Then your car will be contributing to the formation of ground level ozone, smog, acid rain, and airborne toxins. ( )

Maintain Vehicle Efficiency: Regular maintenance as prescribed by the vehicle owner's manual will help your vehicle achieve its best fuel economy. Some overlooked maintenance items, such as a dirty air filter or underinflated tires, will measurably reduce fuel economy. When replacing your tires, replace them with the same make and model as the tires that were on your vehicle when it was new.

those r some good tips. but i have to disagre with the using the cruise control. if ya on a straight road yes use it.

but if ya live in the rolling hills.or mountainous areas. because when u have it on cruise control and u going up hill the car losses power. then to make up for the speed limit. it will gunner the vehicle to make up the speed. it doesnt do the acceleration slowly. it will just kick in big time if ya knw whati mean.

Please check out this article about people stealing gas because of the high gas prices:

I don't even know of a gas station in Las Vegas that lets you pump before you pay. I have seen a couple of gas stations that you can pump before you pay in Michigan which surprised me.

Here is a gas price site to see what you are paying in comparison to what other states pay:

Wow! I wish I was paying those 2004 gas prices! I think the lowest price I have seen here lately was like $3.47.

And How! I drive almost 30 miles to work, each way. I'm thinking of trying to bicycle to work at least once a day...well at least till winter. That would be 55 miles bicycling round trip, it would definitely help me get in shape.

It never will be down to those prices again...

Right now the cheapest in my area that I've seen is $3.73 for regular.

It used to be El Paso gas prices were higher then the state average ...which I never understood cuz of all the refineries in town.. Looks like that's not true anymore..

Funny thing is back in 2004 when this thread was made gas prices was 1.59-1.99 unleaded after Hurricane Katrina they started to explode!

2007 2.30-2.60 unleaded

and now 2011 3.30 - 3.70 for unleaded

yea prices will never go back to the cheap days.
