Default Macana, a powerful weapon

Images here of warriors with the weapon:

http://history.missouristate.edu/jch...c_warriors.htm

The term macana origins come from Taino referring to wooden weapons in Central and South America. It also referenced to the weapon called maquahuitl which is a weapon used by the Mexica is a club made out of wood with obsidian on its edges. The weapon is interesting in design in that it serves as both an edged weapon (due to its obsidian blades) and an impact weapon (due to its stout hardwood body).

The Spanish respected the power of the maquahuitl, and Bernal Diaz describes how a certain soldier in Cortez's army, Pedro de Moron, had his horse decapitated by a blow from this weapon! Diaz refers to the maquahuitl as a "two-handed cutting sword" and as a "dreadful broadsword".

i could see that in a jungle or brushy battlefield that particular weapon could be usefull.

perhaps also as a last line of defense.

but offensively in an open battle area give me a weapon with some reach.

a long bow would be most usefull.

i am going to reach out an touch ya

There was bow and arrows also. I'm just focusing on one weapon. Maybe I should write about the other weapons in the future.

most weapons in those days had at least a duel purpose. i would think that it was also used as a tool to help clear a path through a jungle enviroment.

perhaps todays machete is the great great grandson of the macana?

It's an interesting weapon. I heard it's made out of a copal tree wood, does anybody know if that's true?

They're cool, but obsidian can actually cut people.
