Watch your wallet and make sure to take YOUR OWN PROTECTION and not worry about chicks over there giving you Protection to wear.

I was in Korea for my first duty station it depends where you go the more north you go the more it sucks more curfews and more rules, believe me when I tell you Korea is cold so you better buy some real real warm shit porque si no te mueres del frio, dont mess with them drinky girls homie, always wear protecton and carry it with you at all times, you can buy alot cheap stuff there, and the dog they eat is call kogogi (sp) is actually good, some of the food is pretty fucken good. All I can say about Korea is that it was fun but dont want to go back over there but I guess is better than being deployed.

Where in Korea you will be depends largely on your MOS. If you are in the combat arms or in a combat support MOS you will more than likely be up north, probably in the 2nd Infantry Division. Camp Casey and Camp Hovey are a couple options. So is the Joint Security Area near the DMZ.

I was at Camp Casey back in the 90s. And Soldier is right, the place gets fucking COLD in the winter. Before Korea, I was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado for a couple years, and the winters in Colorado do not compare to the winters in Korea...Korea is much colder.

And don't bring a hootchie mama from the ville back home as a wife, either. You don't want to upset your jefita.

One thing there is to do is plenty of shopping. You can pick up all kinds of clothing, shoes, watches, etc...for very cheap.

The country is only size of the state of Utah with about 60 milliion people milling about. But there are very beautiful parts of the country to visit if you can escape the crowds. If you are young and single, you should have the time of your life, just be careful.

What's 13M...mounted artillery?

Yep, you will be up there at 2nd I.D....also known as the speed bump to Seoul. If North Korea were ever to cross the 38th Parallel on their way to Seoul, 2nd I.D. would serve as the speed bump. LOL.

You may have some KATUSAs (Korean Augmentee to The U.S. Army) assigned to your unit. These are Korean young men, mostly from wealthy families, that serve with US soldiers instead of being conscripted into the Republic Of Korea Army. They're the same age as our soldiers---late teens, early twenties. But these jokers walk around holding hands and hugging on one another in public. They're not gay, it just looks funny to us. Most of them are pretty cool, though.

I was in Camp Kyle about 7 min away from CRC
I was part of the 19th TACOM but we had to get up for alerts from almost anyone in area 2 plus our own fuck that sucked and going to the field at the Dragon Head.....

I was 63T, Bradley Mechanic. I was assigned to 1/72 Armor on Camp Casey. I completed PLDC at Camp...holy crap, I can't believe I forgot the name of the place. It's down near Ouijongbu (spelling?).

Funny thing, I would like to go back to visit one day and take my wife.

What the hell is the name of the camp where they do PLDC?

Anyway, my tour was 12 months. I hear the tours are now 18 months. Is that true?

Here's what I regret not doing while in Korea: Going to the DMZ, going to Cheju-Do, and visiting more parts of the country. Cheju-Do is supposedly an island that is a beautiful tourist spot, but I would never know.

So, Tejas G, make sure you try to visit as many places as you can. You may never go back.

Good luck Tejas!! And God speed!!

The only place out of country that my X was stationed, was in Germany (3.5yrs til I got us kicked outta the country - haha), but we had friends that had done the whole Korea tour .. they all seemed okay with it!!

Wow!

How does it compare to your thoughts of it, before you got there?

Is it what you expected? Worse? Better? How so?
