Default Learning Spanish..

So I'm like a total pocho and can't speak Espanol por nada.

But I have a mail order bride from El Salvador on backorder and need to learn Spanish right away.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about effective programs or tips that can help me immerse myself in the language.

muchos gracias

Funny I was going to make a thread about Spanish.

DVDs/CDs/Tapes from the library. Dictionary. Mexican markets. And maybe you can tutor someone.

Spanish is a similar to Engrish. Learn important words and go from there.

When my parents and sibs didn't want me to know what they were talking about, they spoke to each other in Spanish. All I can say really, is listen to Spanish speaking people carefully. Lol. Watch them mouth the words, and watch how they are received by other people. It's how I kinda picked up on it, although it's still suckish. Haha. Ask Soldier. He knows.

I picked up some CD's from the library as well as a Spanish/English dictionary.
I also have the benefit of living in Los Angeles, where like Lamberto said even the Chinese vendors speak Spanish.

Thats pretty much how it was in our household as well. My parents kept Spanish as their own secret language similar to the Navajo code talkers.
But I don't think I'll be staring at peoples mouths closely. Thats just creepy.

I can understand Spanish conversations fairly well and I can understand something written, because I can go over it again and again.

I mostly need help with speaking it and learning the rules of grammar.

So I have CD's and dictionary covered. Does anyone know of any good websites?

You're fucked. Salvadorian Spanish is almost like Spaniard Spanish since they use vos. Unless you make friends whose origin are from south of Mexico who speak that type of Spanish, other than that, best of luck.

I guess I should mention that I really don't have a El Salvadorian bride on backorder.

I just want to learn Spanish

best way to learn spanish is to visit the country. You'll pick it up fast for survival. But if you can't afford a trip, a good way is to watch spanish television and tell people who you know, to talk to you in spanish. If you don't know anybody that knows spanish, then make new friends.

I am against learning a language with books because you can't hear it and it teaches you funny words that nobody really uses. This way, if you talk to real people, you can at least pick up some of the slang and you won't sound like an idiot when talking to people.

listening is a good way to learn. Log on itunes and download some free podcasts that teach you spanish. This way you'd at least get the pronunciations correct.

after learning, then you should consider taking formal classes(local community college) so you can refine your speaking/writing skills.

Rosetta A therapist I work with wanted to order the program because some of the women are monolingual and she heard that this program works.

I have felt "Pocha" forever. My first idioma was Spanish up until the age of 3 (My mother states I spoke perfect Spanish) then because I was going to start kinder she got paranoid because me and my sister would be attending an almost all white school so she hired and english tutor for us both , long story short my parents began speaking English in the home, I forgot all my conversational Spanish but still could read and understand it, it was not until 5 years ago that I began relearning what I had forgot...grrrr
