I've been exploiting the Mormon church for that reason.

In fact, Tec and I went to the Mormon Church, last night, to look through some documents about my genealogy.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find much

It's pretty tough because my mothers grandmothers maiden name, Montelongo, has a pretty small number of people. Generally populating the northern part of Mexico, in Nuevo Leon. I couldn't find much documents at the church, if I want to look further, I'd have to order micro-films from the main facility of genealogical research in Utah. Which costs about 6.00$ a film.

The other annoying name I'm looking through are Escobedo, which is my last name but sort of irritating that most people on the internet doing genealogical research with Escobedo all claim to be related to General Mariano Escobedo. Even my father claims we're related, but I dunno!

Anyway, happy searching to anyone else who's looking through their roots.

Ok Ok I haven't read thru the whole thread, but as far as what I read the mormon church has a lot of information on Mexican families, and if so can I go to any mormon church or just the main one?? If I go do I just ask them to let me see the records on that family? Do they have these records online??? I have been trying for the longest to do a family tree, the farthest I have made it to is 1915... I'm looking for family Iniguez or Yniguez

So ive been doing some personal research to try to determine the tribe (or tribes) that my family is related to but i cant find anything about the indigenous side. I traced back to 1598 through one bloodline on each side and it led me to Bartolome Romero and Hernan Martin Serrano, two soldiers who came to New Mexico with Juan de Onate in 1598. i know we have Native American blood but i cant find any hard proof. As far as i know my family (all sides) have been in New Mexico at least since 1598, so it would have to be a tribe from there. There was an old family story that an Indian grandmother some ways back was taken from her tribe and raised by the Apaches but idk how true this is. Any ideas about how to find out specifically what tribe my family might come from would be appreciated

Mexicans are like white people. Claiming a bunch of ancestries they are not certain of. "Well I'm Irish, Polish, a little German, British and French." Shit cracks me up.

Not so especially since Zacatecas had a lot of nomadic tribes in there.

You got the Zacatec, Caxcan, Guachichil, & Tepehuan (which the Spanish were too lazy to remember their tribes names so they call them all Chichimecas) who were native to the region.

Don't forget that the Spanish brought other tribes to this state for mining silver. Plus the Spanish brought the Mexica & Tlaxcateca as soldiers.

Lately I've been getting really nostalgic for my parent's pueblo back in Zacatecas and I think a lot of it is because I would love to sit down and get as many documents from their church's records as I can. Hopefully sometime in the near future I can have the chance to visit and do this so that I can show my future children where they come from.

Great thread.

They have improved on Mexican documents, but like I said in the previous conversation, depends on where your family is from.

Find out everything about your family tree since that will be very helpful.

My aunt did research on my mom's side of the family. Zero native blood, mostly german and some French, Spanish and Japanese in the mix.
