Default retirement plan

I remember my highschool history teacher encouraging us to get some type of long term savings/retirement plan the day we turn 18. He said many of us would forget and shrug it off, but does who don't will thank themselves a million times when they are older.

So I am wondering how many young people here have set up a plan for themselves for when they retire(what type)? If not, why not?

I know many of us don't even think about that sort of thing but the sooner we start, the better off we will be.

Relying on pension and social security checks is a bit foolish nowadays...

I have one!

and I encourage everyone to start one.

The old people who are traveling and doing fun stuff are those that started their retirement early.

Or they had a big house they kept for 25 yrs or more and downsized to a smaller one and now live in a house they own outright and only have to worry about paying the yearly taxes.

Money is great when you are young to enjoy it. But it tastes sweeter when you are old and need it.

The old that are poor never thought gas prices and food prices would be so high and so they saved just a little.

Also, be kind to your children, because they are the ones that will be taking care of you.
