I notice a lot of parallels with the catholic irish and mexicans. At least pre 80's wise.

I'm always reading several books at a time but thelast one I finished was quick one I read over the weekend. The Good Son. The biography of Ray 'Boom Boom' Mancini.

^How is that? And who wrote it?

I recently re-read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig for like the tenth time...probably my fave book of all time.

Mark Kriegal. I like biographies of fighters, but I'm not a super boxing fan.
I knew that Ray Mancini was a 2nd generation fighter and he killed Dong yu Kim (or whatever his name was).
I found Kim's story the most interesting part of the book. I knew nothing about him except he was Korean and he died after their fight.
But he had an interesting backstory about being dirt poor without much talent for boxing, but just psychotic grit and drive, which ultimately killed him.

Never got around to reading Zen and The Art of Motorcycle maintenance, although I think I may happen to have a copy laying around. I should pick it up soon.

I saw that fight.. His name was Duk Koo "Duk" Kim..

Does the book mention anything about Mancinis Fights with Livingstone Bramble?

I remember the Pre Fight Promotions Bramble would taunt Mancini and call him a murderer..

yeah, thats his name. Duk Kim.

They do mention his Livingston Bramble fights and have quotes from him about the fight itself and the shit he talked. They describe him as a rastafarian who spooked Mancini by playing up his voo doo powers and of course calling him a murderer. He said it was just his way of getting in the head of mancini; and it worked. He said he apologized to his parents afterwards and said "i would never measure my heart against Mancini's"

Call Me old but I saw a good number of the Golden Age Fights.. Got to see Chavez, Mancini, Arguello, Pryor, Camacho, Leonard, Hagler, Hearns, Duran,Pintor, Sanchez, Bramble, Mugabi, Holmes, Spinks, Tyson, Pedroza, Nelson, Whitaker, Holyfield, Rosario, F. Mayweather Senior, R. Mayweather, Canizales, Benitez, Barkley, Paez, Haugen, Canizales, Qawi, Curry,Hill, Roman, Nunn.. And on and on..

THAT was the golden Age of Boxing..

That Mancini Arguello Fight was about the time I started to watch Boxing Intently..

A good Boxing Biography is the LaMotta Bio "Raging Bull" that Scorcese made into a movie.. Great Book

Read that one.

Also read King of The World and a bio on Rubin Hurrican Carter, although not much boxing in that one.

The bio on Rubin is more about when he was convicted, the time he spent in prison, and his appeals and whatnot right? I read pts of that, and saw the movie w/ Denzel.

yeah but not the book that was actually written by him. But a biography about him, which is mostly about his case and appeals and stuff. Not too much about his boxing career. Right now I'm reading The Beatles by Art Davies. The only authorized biography about them, or so the cover claims.

I'm re-reading the James Clavell Asian saga books
Gai-jin - finished
Shogun - now half way thru
Noble House - loaded on Kindle this week

Also reading
The Dance of Anger - very good!

I also listen to audio books at work - just bought the book:
How to Win Friends and Influence People
just to listen to while concentrating on work - to keep myself from being involved from the drama at work.
