Post Partum Depression. An Excuse for Murder and Mayhem?

Last month this woman slashed the throats of her three babies and immediately received an outpouring of support. "She's obviously a sufferer of postpartum depression!" they said.
How is that if a man harms a child, he is immediately labeled as a monster and is expected to be held accountable? But when a woman does the same she is the victim of female specific emotional/biological/psychological issues?
Feminism preaches the genders are equal. So what gives?

Okay. So if postpartum depression, a gender specific disorder, is "real", then that would mean that men and women are NOT equal.

If a man were to cut a baby's throat, he would not get any sympathy and he'd certainly be looking at life behind bars. It's an entirely different story for a woman.

Back on topic though, I wouldn't necessarily say it's a gender disorder as not every female will experience it (for those that have decided not to get pregnant). And of course, there a different "levels" of the depression (some more severe than others).

Also, I believe it would depend as to what exactly you're trying to be equal at.. i.e.; job/career, salary.. etc.

The second statement is just fault of a crooked criminal justice system. They were just discussing this on the radio this morning. In TX actually...the guy was the 103th or 108th death row exonoree. Did 20 years on death row only to have been found innocent and now that he's out, he's trying to get out there and spread the word about it.

AND I AM BY NO MEANS...trying to compare both of these cases...just FYI.

Men can't have babies and cannot claim postpartum depression if they were to harm their children, so postpartum depression is a gender specific disorder.

So equality where it's convenient? Women want equal pay. Women want equal employment opportunities., etc... I'm cool with that. But you can't have your cake and eat it, too. When a woman slices her baby's throat or severs her husband's penis she can't exclaim, "Yew see, yo honor, I got deeze here feemale issuez! You know what I'm sayeen?"

That is true. So let me be more pacific: Women who give birth to children and slice their little throats, or drown them, or nuke them all have the option to claim postpartum depression. Men do not have that option if they slice, drown, or nuke their children.

In this case, shouldn't there be proof of the so called "depression". I mean, I'm sure they give Psych evaluations..so I don't think EVERY woman in such case easily gets "off the hook".

I'm not sure how they can actually prove such a thing. IMO it's all just "professional opinion" and persuasive language.

As far as the number of women getting off the hook or having PPD taken into consideration by the courts where a woman uses such a condition in her defense is concerned: I should probably look further into that.

However, the main thing I find to be disturbing is the support women receive from society when these atrocities occur. In the video there are several people who defended her. It's pretty sickening actually.

Oh, man! This ^^^ nigga! Well, check out the vid when you get the chance. For this particular video at least two people kind of defend her actions. There are other videos out there.

I've been following this story since it broke and the comments sending support her way were disgusting. Well, IMO they were disgusting.

Like I said, if a man were to do the same he'd instantly be labeled a monster by the whole of society...and rightfully so. But if a woman harms or kills her children, she gets an outpouring of support. GTFO here, Yo!!!

Wait a gosh darn moment.... Let me get this straight: She was taking meds for PPD, YET, she was drinking... So, in that time of her drinking her kids were interfering with her buzz, so she slashed their throats. So... She made a conscious decision to drink alcohol, a DEPRESSANT, while taking meds for a type of depression? Right?

The reporter's tone is laced with sympathy.

Her neighbor says, "...this was a cry for help...I hope she gets the help she needs."

That one guy said, "...stress is a factor...something pushed her to the breaking point..."

Why is it that society does not hold women accountable for their actions?
