Default Drink Cultura by Jose Antonio Burciaga

I didn't scroll all the pages to see if anyone already recommended this book, but I certainly do. It's filled with recollections and some good stories about his life and the history of Chicanos.

I really enjoy just reading more about our history, especially since it rarely gets told. Some parts are pretty funny too, his style of writing is a little sarcastic at times, so when u can catch what he's trying to say it's pretty funny. The variety of stories are pretty cool too, stories based on history, education, food, his childhood, etc.

More interesting than his life stories though are his views on what it is to be a Chicano, and the history of the people. That's why I got it, and 3/4 through the book, I'm already intrigued.

burciaga is from el paso, like me but vato is a hard core post-modernist, him and culture clash aren't my cup of tea and they are way to neo-liberal for my taste......

I like this book, it's very easy to read and probably only would take you about a month worth of taking the obama's to the white house to finish...

Great book. I would recommend anyone who wants to learn about Chicano culture to read it.

^LOL
I started to read it, and I just couldn't get through it.
I found it very boring and some of it was a bit cliché.

It was a book I got for an Intro to Chicano Studies class... and it fit the bill as it is very much an "intro" book. Might let my son read it since it's not a very hard read.

Every time I have a copy, someone borrows it and that's the last I hear of it. LOL.
