comunidad, milpa, casa, escuela u hortaliza familiar.

correo. Haz clic para pedir tus semillas Zapatistas

¡No Están Solos!
Haz clic
para leer las denuncias de las JBG

Aggressions against Zapatista communities increase
In recent weeks and months there have been a disturbing number of threats and
aggressions against Zapatista communities. Although the mainstream media has
virtually ignored these developments, Schools for Chiapas urges everyone to pay
close attention to the situation in the coming months. We will work to help keep
you informed of developments. In addition, a number of massive road building
projects (like the one near the Zapatista center of Roberto Barrios pictured
above and on the right ) have also raised fears of increased government
harassment and environmental destruction.

Join us in Chiapas ~ Summer 2008
Another world is possible . . . and a number of better worlds are being built
today in the Mayan communirties of Chiapas, Mexico. Come see it for yourself and
meet the Mayan people who are making it happen!

Most Schools for Chiapas trips involve rustic living in breathtakingly beautiful
locations with interesting and involved people from many countries. Some trips
include a service component (construction, cleaning, and painting) and all of
our travel programs are educational. More recently we've begun offering tours
which are based in comfortable city hotels with day trips to the autonomous,
indigenous communities (read Zapatista). No special language skills are required
as full translations are always provided collectively. So why not join us in the
misty highlands and steamy jungles of the Mexican southeast this summer. Click
here to see upcoming trips to Chiapas.

Painting pictures of hope - a new world is waiting to be drawn!
Schools for Chiapas regularly organizes specialty tours for university, church,
and specific interest groups such as the Elon University students pictured here.

Students from Project Pericles at Elon University, NC choose the autonomous
communities in Chiapas, Mexico and Schools for Chiapas to be the beneficiaries
of a three year service project. During their senior year, these students
traveled to Chiapas, to contribute their labor and learn more about the
Zapatistas. In particular the students studied Zapatista education in health,
literacy, ecological agriculture, and commercialization. This beautiful school
mural is one of the many fruits of their labor!

their funding of a Zapatista elementary school.
Reconstruction begins on
The Paul Mann Memorial School
Paul Mann was a creative and dedicated teacher activist from the United States
who long supported the autonomous, indigenous schools of Chiapas, Mexico. After
Paul died unexpectedly his family, friends, and union colleagues in the Peace
and Justice Caucus of the National Education Association (NEA) began planning a
memorial in Chiapas. This much needed educational project will train teachers
and other leaders in the Mayan communities. We are certain this Zapatista school
reconstruction is the perfect way to honor the broad vision and life-long
dedication of our friend Paul.

Mayan children are currently attending class in the room pictured on the right
(click the photo at the right for a larger view). This classroom will be the
very first space to be rebuilt at The Paul Mann Memorial School in Chiapas,
Mexico. New desks will soon replace the rough planks which the students now use
during their studies, the walls will be plastered, the floor and ceiling
replaced. You can help . Today funds are urgently needed for the reconstruction
and people-of-conscience everywhere are invited to join us in Chiapas during the
summer of 2008 to participate in this reconstruction project. Click the
following dates for trip information:
Trip 73 ~ July 20 to 26, 2008
Trip 74 ~ Aug. 3 to 9, 2008

^ order some to find out. then toss them out your bathroom room window before you go to sleep. By the next morning it should have grown into a cornstalk that is taller than the Empire State Building, so you climb it up all the way to the top and you'll see a golden egg waiting to be found
