Well I guess people do say tequila is a type of Mezcal, I just asked my dad. Pretty much any liquor made from the Agave plant is a Mezcal, but a tequila is more specific in terms of how it's produced...

And Bourbon is whiskey made in Kentucky, they reserve the name. Kinda like Cognac is a type of brandy only made in the town of Cognac, France...

Good Mezcal that I've tried has no name and it's not mass produced. It's shit you gotta find a connection for and follow someone to their ranch where they produce it themselves. I've had some Mezcal that taste like fuckin caña...

Well yea I guess you could say that, the best shit you can get is stuff that people make themselves. Especially out in the ranchos, there's always someone who does this and makes a living that way. You could sip on Mezcal it's so good, and I've yet to try a Tequila that's mass produced I could sip on...

I would've voted both, but since that option is not there, I just picked Tequila.

That was my point, not all people from oaxaca are short. He called me a oaxaquito, a term that is derived on the notion that all oaxaqueños are short. I am not short, in fact most people from my mom's side of the family are average height, with the exception of my grandfather who was quite tall.

Niyorco, he is right in the sense that most good mezcal is not distributed internationally. The good stuff I tasted came right out of the ranch, it's sweet, smooth, fresh and with no bad after taste. The majority of mezcal around here has a harsh taste. The fact that you can't really mix it with anything turns a lot of people away from it.

A lot of the Mezcal*fixed produced in small towns, does make it to the city of oaxaca but to my knowledge, very little of it is actually distributed internationally like you see with tequila. It's just not as popular. But if someone knows of a good brand that does make its way outside of Mexico, let me know. I'd like to try it myself.

Lucky for me(us) there is enough family/friends who make their way to oaxaca and brings us back a bottle. If you ever do find yourself in Oaxaca, ask for the good stuff and you might be surprised. Or hell, if you ever make your way to Hayward, we'll pour you a shot,
