I never used Windows 3.1, my first PC was Windows95. I learned what I know about DOS from trying to run DOS games on that WIN95 machine.

Getting that PC and using it extensively was the best thing ever. Even now, I can still refer back to things that I learned just by using and experimenting with that machine.

Damn... my family was too broke to every afford one. I heard friends talking about Windows this and Mac that, but i never knew a damn thing they were talking about. Well until i got to high school and enrolled in a computer class. Hell i still remember when we got to upgrade from 16-bit to 32-bit Ram. THat day was nuts! and now.... well now im a computer geek.

First computer ever owned: HP w/ Windows ME. 16 MB RAM and i think 10 GB of space.

I didnt own a computer til maybe 2001 or 2002. I learned computers on an old IBM when i was in 6th grade. Just your basis's is what they taught us and test. I think that was back in like 1990 or 91. Here and there i used one, but only at school, thought they were cool, but only played games for the most part when i was doing an assignment. When i was graduating, the internet was starting to be talked about, but not a whole lot, that was 97.

Then it just started to blow up and i heard people, INTERNET AND COMPUTERS THIS AND THAT. I kind of and still do think people made a way to big a deal over the internet. I would hear commercials like, NEVER LEAVE YOUR HOUSE AND DO EVERYTHING ONLINE. i THOUGHT how pathetic!!! I still do think that. I use the net for this and that, but i am not owned by it and not reliant by it. Computers are very useful. I still hav e an old one, need to upgrade, but still not enough money for one i can really have fun with.

My first experience was with the computers that saved data to a cassette tape. Green screen.

I always liked them, but was too poor to ever get one. Still have the first one I bought and am using it right now. Bought it in 2001 for 1,500, the tower, keyboard and mouse. I got ripped off.

I think I was around 21 the first time I got on the internets.

We used to have Apple computers at my elementary school but those things were ancient compared to what people are used to today.

No.. rofl. It's a disease that people got back in the day, usually do to water source. Lots of people died.. and in the game Oregon Trail, people would usually die randomly. Usually from snake bites, cholera, falling off the wagon e.t.c

Boy! The first time I got close to a computer was in 1976. I was working for the Welfare Dept for the state of Oregon. We had one computer in the office.
All it did was the medical cards, and financials.

It was a couple of years later that the case workers got computers and then that was just to type letters and get e-mail and track financial stuff.

the first time I got ahold of one for myself at work - was 1990 when I worked for the City of Portland Environmental Services - It was DOS and just sat at on my desk doing nothing, so I asked my super if I could learn how to do e-mail, wordperfect and the spreadsheet - she said sure..........She got me some manuals and I taught myself how to do things while answering the phones and taking messages....

Pretty soon, I was proficient yea me!

I bought my own in 1998 - top of the line Gateway - cost me $3000 - but worth every penny.........

Now thats all I do - at work is computer......I use two screens, work in a Map program, with maps, I program our windows program using the DOS-Rumba site - work spreadsheets, create routes..............and I have never taken a formal computer class.

Oh and I love this site....You all have taught me how to play on the computer and I very much appreciate it. I only thought of the computer as a working tool.

I've always liked computers since I was a mocosa. My parents could never afford it, though. My pops promised to get me a comp when I get to high school, and when I got to HS... I reminded him of his promise. So, he went and got us the comp. (Not my own, of course... since I have 3 siblings lol). My first comp was an HP running on Windows ME. When I moved out, I bought my own HP on Windows XP. I've bought a few comps since then, for my business, and for different areas of interest. For at home use, I have an HP desktop, and a Dell laptop. At my private studio, we have a Mac. That comp is mostly for recordings, and I don't know how to do that shit... so I rarely touch it. lol
