Default When Brand Names Matter

I have been known to try and save a buck or two anytime I can. Some call it frugal while others call it downright cheap. But, whatever!

In my quest to keep money in my pocket I have been known to buy/use store brand, off-brand, or generic, products. However I have learned there are times when nothing but the real deal Holyfield big brand name will do.

In which cases have you found you absolutely have to have the big brand name and why?

Here's mine:

1) Heinz Ketchup---I have used the cheap stuff and it just ain't the same. Even Hunt's doesn't cut the mustard here. For ketchup, it's gotta be Heinz.

2) Windex---------This is a lesson that has been years in the making. Up until like yesterday I have been buying the cheap ass generic "Glass Cleaner" but nothing works like Windex when trying to get your car windows clean and streak free, IMHO.

Your turn.

Tyelnol. The Target brand just doesn't work the same.

Laundry detergent. I need real Surf.

Coffee--don't ever buy store brand coffee. It's weak.

...and don't dye your hair out of a box (just thought I'd throw that in).

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. I tried the generic shit and it aint the same. It has to be KRAFT Cheese and Marconi.

Trojan Condoms. Don't ever skimp on condoms by trying to buy the ones at the 99 cent store.

Dish soap - I have to use Dawn
Mayonnaise - Best Foods

I can probably come up with a few other must have "name brands" but these are the first ones that came to mind.

I don't mind John Kerry so much. I just can't stand his wife, but gottdamn if her family doesn't make the best ketchup.

Just thought of another one: Laundry Detergent.

For years I have been getting the off-brand or the cheap stuff. Then my washing machine went on the fritz and I had to go to the laundromat to do my laundry.

I was like, why the hell isn't my load sudsing up like Pedro's? WTF? Well, Pedro was using Tide and I was using Hyde. So now I spend the extra ducats and pick up Tide.

Oh! I forgot to add:

SHAMPOO

You might as well use dish soap on your head if you're going to use store-brand shampoo.

Like you, SC, I'm not opposed to all store brand items (just certain things). I like buying Target or CVS brands if they work just as well.

So which champu do you prefer?

Pepsi or Coke-----I absolutely cannot have generic cola. I can have generic root beer, but when it comes to cola it has to be one of the big two.

Shampoo
I only buy/use Aveda Sap Moss

Any other shampoo brings my split ends back, I can't have that.

Chicken and Turkey
They're the only meat I eat and when I eat it I want it to be good and healthy, so I only buy the really expensive organic stuff.

Pots and Pans
Most of mine are Kitchen Essentials or Calphalon, Kitchen Essentials is made by Calphalon for Target so I guess that is technically a "Target Brand" but Kitchen Essentials is a lot more expensive then other stuff at Target.

Camera Lenses
Only Canon and as much as I can I stick to the L series.

I bought one of those before at the flea market. It was funny and the thing was only $15. The funniest thing was the box it came in. The photocopied the original box artwork and pasted it on there. I ended up giving as a gag gift.

I said Sorny, not sony. (simpson reference)

anyways, I like sony overall. I use sony hdv cams.

The thing I don't like about them, is they try to do too much and as a consequence they do things half assed. They should just concentrate on a few things and do those things right.

Toilet paper= Charming
Dish soap= Palmolive
Detergent- Tide with bleach
Soda- am ok with the generic brand
Soap- caress, (hate Ivory one of the cheapest ones too messy)
about windex is the only one that really works.
