What I did for Thanksgiving Break
What I did for Thanksgiving Break
For many, they spent this time shopping for Christmas, but for me, I went to Sinaloa, along with the rest of the board of Alianza Indigena, to speak to the Yoreme (Mayo) to help them become recognized by the Mexican Government as natives, preserve culture, and become independent. On Friday night, we met with the Yoreme leaders from each community to see what they needed and what we were going to show on Saturday. They liked the idea of the internet and how it could help many of the people who make artisanias (less than 26 of them and mostly elders) could have something online and be able to display their items to sell. Saturday, we went to some sacred grounds which you can’t talk about politics. I was sad bc no one made artisanias so I can buy them. We all did our presentation on what could help on those three points. The only person who had anything to sell was this artist who made paintings for a living. I bought 3 of them (pretty big). One was this woman making pottery. Another was of a boy deer dancer. The last one was this place near the river. The guy was very grateful. We all ate meals which were a meal that was something my mom makes: meat with carrots and squash with caldo and a lot of shrimp since they’re famous for shrimp and tons of tortillas. The people enjoyed our stay. Sunday we left. I have a ton of pics. Will show them later. |
That sounds sweet. Hope you do post em up.

Thanks. I'm looking for the cable for my camera to connect it to my computer, but no luck.
I think what was funny was this guy speaking to me in Mayo and I didn't understand until he grabbed my arm and pointed at my camera so I can take a pic of them. They want a truck for transportation. They need a lot of things. |
That was really neat Tec.. I hope you find your cable soon so you can post the pictures. I've always wanted to go to Sinaloa.. maybe one of these days in the near future..
|
That would be cool to see the pictures. I'll keep an eye out. 8)

They needed a lot of stuff. Here's is what I have on the top of my head:
Better living conditions; many of them live in cardboard, cheapwood houses with almunium roofing. A truck; Somehow this stucked in my head. School Transportation; since all the schools are very far away and the kids hitch rides to and from school taking them hours (kids leave at 7PM and get home around 10-11PM). |
Hey Tec is there anything we could do to help?
|
There's a lot. You can speak to my org's Executive Director who can reached by my org's number: (714) 758-1990 or e-mail lopez1212@aol.com to find out more.

Tell Lupe Lopez (Executive Director) that you heard from Ocelotl (short version of Tecpaocelotl) about the trip to the Yoreme Community and was wondering how you can help.
