^^^ He's exactly right.

Whatever topic you can come up with branching off from "Free" that's NOT foreign power, then Mexico's most likely not free from.

You get me?

I.E.: Politics, it's not a republic, and not popular sovereignty
Religion. Eh, you tell me?

Go through... P.E.R.S.I.A.

Politics, Education, Religion, Social, Intelectual, Architechual/Artistic.

I'm sure you have your pros and cons.

In many ways, the Criollos(ancestors of todays elite in Mexico, of Spanish origin) picked up where the Spanish left off. Society was still based on race & class. The Hacienda system in Mexico(a complex version of the U.S. sharecropping system), which kept multitudes in indentured(often involuntary) servitude was not abolished until 1917.

But even though it may have been abolished in 1917, does that mean it still did not happen?

Depends, free on what level?

Free from Spain's colonial domination, yes.

Free from domination from foreign nations, no.
