Default Official 2012 Boxing Thread

As I write this.. the most exciting thing that has happened in boxing this month has been .. Shit.. Nothing..

January has sucked... except for two things..

HBO started a 6 part Documentary on Freddie Roach.

I saw the first one and I have to say.. FASCINATING.. If you get a chance watch it. I'll be glued to my set for the rest.

And NBC Sports Channel (formerly VS) and Top Rank started a Friday Night fights type show. It is supposed to be what HBO's Boxing After Dark was supposed to be. Up and comers fighting other hungry Up and comers with no regard to protecting/padding records. Just straight up fast paced exciting matches between fighters on their way up or who have hit a ceiling but are still considered strong tests for the up and comers.

I didn't catch the first show but heard they did a pretty good job. I'll be on the look out for more.

No fights of note this month.. But February the tide comes pretty quick with a couple of fights that should be pretty decent.

February 4

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Vs. Marco Antonio Rubio
Nonito Donaire vs Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
Vanis Martirosyan v Troy Lawry

This should be the toughest fight of Chavez' career.. while Rubio isn't a world class fighter he is still pretty good and easily the best Chavez has faced to date. Should be fun.

Donaire finally climbs back in after a lackluster showing in his last fight and is looking to make short work of Vazquez.. Vazquez is a slugger so this should be an exciting if short fight.

I only listed the last fight cuz I know of Martirosyan which is to say I've never seen him fight but all accounts say he's the one to beat at Jr. Middleweight and could be a future opponent for Canelo Alvarez

That's just the first week..

I'll post more later

P.S.

Reading an article about the Roach Documentary and saw the name Liev Schreiber pop up..

Did anyone else know that Liev Schreiber did the narration for HBO sports including 24-7? I thought that was pretty trippy.. would have never guessed THIS was the dude behind the voice..

Two weeks into February..

Chavez Jr. gave a good accounting of himself in the ring.. out of it..

well..

Not so much..

Have an action packed couple of weeks coming.. no real big names but should be some good fights

Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012

Corpus Christi, Texas (Showtime)

Tavoris Cloud (No. 2) vs. Gabriel Campillo (No. 9)
12 Rounds - light heavyweight division (for Cloud's IBF title)

Should be good Cloud can put on a show

Paul Williams vs. Nobuhiro Ishida
12 rounds - Junior middleweight Division

Paul Williams is usually entertaining

Chris Arreola (No. 9) vs. Eric Molina
Heavyweight Division

Arreola is always fun to watch.. I just hope he's been keeping up with his training .. if he's turned into a fat slob again.. not even worth following anymore

Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012

St. Louis (HBO)

Devon Alexander vs. Marcos Maidana
10 Rounds - Welterweight Division

This should be fun.. Maidana should rise to the occasion and KO Alexander

Adrien Broner (No. 5) vs. Eloy Perez (No. 9)
12 Rounds - Junior lightweight Division (for Broner's WBO title)

Another fun match.. Perez is no slouch and Broner is an up and coming "slick" fighter in the mold of Gayweather

And The one I'm looking forward to..

On the under card of the Gayweather Cotto fight ..

http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/1...her-cotto-card

Saul "El Canelo" Alvarez vs "Sugar" Shane Mosley..

Finally a name fighter for Alvarez..

I fully expect this to be Alvarez' coming out party, but don't ever count Shane Mosley out..

..

Have fun at the fights!

Chavez looked good against rubio, the kids got a chin and good body punching to go along with size...

Canelo vs mosely should be entertaining, hope the ginger kid can get a ko...

Best fight of the year, however, will be bam bam rios.vs. gamboa if it goes down...rios says 135 so we'll see if he struggles to make weight...

Pac is rich, and Floyd offered 40 million! Pac doesn't deserve a 50/50 split after his last performance against an opponent Floyd basically pitched a shutout to. Pac doesn't wanna see Floyd, not that I'm a big fan of his I just know some boxing. I rather see Floyd vs maravilla

Floyd offered 40 million and NO PPV..

That's just fucking stupid..

Nobody in their right mind would take that.. Pacquiao's camp countered with a 55-45 revenue and purse split with 55 to the winner.. and apparently Floyd turned that down..

You don't know as much about boxing if you think that Pacquiao's fight against Marquez and Marquez Mayweather would be any indication of how a Pacquiao Mayweather fight would be. Boxer A beats Boxer B Boxer B beats Boxer C does not mean A would beat C...

Styles make fights brosef, manny does well against fighters who go after him and struggles vs fighters that stay back, wait and counter. Which of the two do u think Floyd is? And the size and reach difference heavily favors Floyd. When the fight happens, ill be happy to take your money on a bet favoring Floyd.

Of course styles make fights.. that's my point exactly.

Floyd has problems with South paws and he definitely does not like pressure fighters. He avoids them like the plague.

No Carnal no bets, I don't know who would win that fight because I have too much respect for both fighters to say either would get their ass kicked, but I have a strong feeling you're going to see a very boring fight should these two ever meet in the ring. Floyd will crawl up in his shell like a Penis in cold water and Manny's wild ass may never be able to break into that defense..

Now as for real fights (Because P v M is a pipe dream that we may never see until P gets old and M decides to pull a Sugar Ray Leonard v Hagler and Maravilla will never get a shot at Gayweather .. CSF is too small and he knows it)

Mayweather - Cotto is about three years too late for Mayweather.. I think this version of the PRIcan might have a shot .. (Remember my Cold water Penis analogy)

Pacquiao - Bradley may be a pretty decent fight. Until Bradley pussed out and ducked Khan he was considered one of the best at 140.. Should be fun.

Brandon Rios vs Yuriorkis Gamboa... HOLY SHIT.. THIS ladies and germs will be a VERY good fight. Rios doesn't know how to back down and Gamboa may have to kill him to win... This is my early Fight of the Year prediction. It should be a fucking War

Saturday has a pair of interesting fights in line..

Devon Alexander vs. Marcos Maidana This should be interesting look for a good showing by Maidana but it's in St. Louis so he'll need a KO to win IMHO

Adrien Broner vs. Eloy Perez this could easily steal the show.. Broner is a fast slick quick hitting kid and Perez is a pressure fighter has some boxing skills and power .. This could very well be a preview of what the Cotto Gayweather will look like.

We have the

Juan Ma Lopez Orlando Salcido Rematch coming up.. The first was a shocking upset.. This should be as exciting.

And you have Mikey Garcia fighting on the undercard. Garcia could be a star and on the P4P list in the next three or four years if he keeps blowing through people like he has been.

There are so many good fights coming up this year (not to mention Robert Guerrero should be popping up somewhere soon) that P v M is a stupid subject now.

Until it happens it's a dumb convo.

that's what I am afraid of.

LQ - 40million sounds like a good deal but the no ppv money is a bit much. I don't think he expects 50/50 but he does expect some of it, as he should since it'll be a big fight. You don't think pac deserves at least some of that?

Of course, but its all excuses man I just don't like the.fact that pac is a puppet and does whatever his fat Jewish Fuck of a boss tells him to do. They should give the entire ppv numbers to the winner of the fight, Fuck a split be men about it.

I also wanna point out that pac fought cotto at 145, drained him like.he.likes to do with his catchweights...Floyd vs cotto is at 150 and I think it'll be a.better fight than people think.

Floyd plays the catch weight game too..

As for the entire PPV .. that's ridiculous..

Why would anyone in their right minds agree to something like that?

You would leave 30-40 million dollars on the table just like that?

I think that's more than unreasonable.. it's insane.

A 55-45 split winner takes 55 is more than fair.

I agree Cotto has a hell of a shot of beating Mayweather.

I was exaggerating on that, bottom line is they are both going to make more money than any other prizefighter in history.

Agreed..

Fuck them.. I don't care anymore if they ever fight.

Way too much going on in boxing to give a righteous shit about a potentially boring fight.

Cotton was not drained at 145. In five of his 9 ww fights, he weighed in at the 146 range. That extra pound didn't drain him or mlose the fight for him, Mannys speed did him in.

Did I call it or what..

http://ringtv.craveonline.com/blog/1...ero-on-july-28

I like Robert Guerrero he's a classic throwback boxer. Everything he does works off the One Two Combo.. Jab .. Straight right.. Jab Right Hook.. Jab Right Double Hook..

A classic fighter no flash no games just classic straight forward give no ground clean boxing.

The Sport needs more fighter like him.

It was pretty good,.. I don't know about robbed, It was close very close.. i think the ref played too much of a role .. he interrupted the action way too much and kept warning Huck about hitting Povetkin when his head was down when Povetkin kept ducking down..

Good fight.
